How we rank

Every list on this site is built the same way, from public evidence anyone can go and check. This page is the full method, in plain English, including what we do not do.

The method

How the Top 5 is built

Our rankings are based on verified reviews gathered across multiple sources, not Google alone. We check Google rating and review volume, then cross reference against BBB accreditation and rating, plus HomeStars, Yelp, Houzz and TrustedPros where accessible. We weigh years in business using the most credible source we could verify, favouring confirmed BBB start dates over unverified marketing claims. We also credit real accreditation, such as BBB Accreditation, and any licensing, insurance or WorkSafeBC coverage the business has actually published, only listing a credential when it is independently confirmable or clearly self stated. Finally we weigh how much of Metro Vancouver each installer truly serves and how well their specialty fits the job. No installer pays for placement.

In detail

What we check, and why it matters

Google rating, review volume and recency
We read the rating and the volume behind it. A 5.0 from four reviews is not the same signal as a 4.9 from 285, and a strong rating built years ago is not the same as one still being earned this year.
BBB accreditation and other review platforms
We cross reference against the Better Business Bureau and, where accessible, HomeStars, Yelp, Houzz and TrustedPros. We distinguish a genuine BBB Accreditation from an unclaimed BBB listing, because they are not the same thing.
Years in business, from the most credible source
We favour a confirmed BBB start date or an incorporation record over a number a company prints on its own homepage. Where the only source is the business itself, we say so.
Licensing, insurance and WorkSafeBC coverage
There is no single provincial flooring licence in British Columbia, so we record what each business has actually published about liability insurance and WorkSafeBC coverage, and we flag where that information is not publicly available rather than assuming it.
Service area coverage
A great installer who only covers one suburb is a great answer for that suburb and the wrong answer for the rest of the region. We weigh how much of the metro area each business genuinely serves.
Specialization fit
Some teams are strongest on hardwood, some on large format tile, some on flooring as part of a whole renovation. We note what each one is actually best for so you can match them to your job.

No one pays to be ranked

Installers cannot buy a place on a Top 5 list, move up it, or pay to have a competitor removed. There is no sponsored tier hidden inside the ranking. If we ever run a paid placement anywhere on this site it will be labelled as advertising and kept outside the ranked list, where you can see it for what it is.

We also do not rank businesses we could not verify. If a company has no traceable review history, no public record and no confirmable credentials, it does not go on a list, however good its own website says it is.

Keeping it honest

Updates, mistakes and corrections

Ratings move and businesses change. Every list carries the date it was last verified, and we re-check the published lists on a rolling basis rather than leaving a page to age quietly. Where a figure came from a single source, we name that source on the page.

If something on this site is wrong, we want to fix it fast. That includes business owners: if we have your review count, your service area, your accreditation or your start date wrong, tell us and we will re-verify and correct it. Corrections are made on the page, not quietly deleted.

FAQ

Questions about our rankings

Can a business pay to be on a list?
No. Placement is earned on the criteria above and nothing else. No installer on any list has paid us for their position.
Why five and not fifty?
A list of fifty is a phone book, not a recommendation. Narrowing to five forces us to actually make a call, and it leaves you with a shortlist you can realistically get quotes from this week.
How do you make money then?
We match homeowners with installers through our quote form. That connection is what supports the site. It does not buy anyone a spot in the editorial ranking, and the ranked list is written before any of it is considered.
Where do the numbers come from?
Public sources: Google Business Profiles, the BBB, other review platforms, and the businesses’ own published statements about licensing and insurance. We record the date each list was verified so you can judge how current it is.
